A New Month

I did so well last week. But you know this is a holiday weekend, so things happen.  A good friend of ours invited us to Lake Lanier today.  We had such a good time but it threw me off from doing my blog.  Anyway, enough excuses, here is the menu (it will be a bit abbreviated for time sake):

Tuesday (I felt like having wings)

This is the end of August and the beginning of September

I must say.  I think last week was a success.  I don't know about you but everything that we had from the menu was heavenly.  Ok, enough touting my own horn, here is the menu for this week.

Monday
Ribs - put on grill (look at one of the earlier post for more specific directions)
Patti LaBelle Over the Rainbow Macaroni and Cheese (this is a heart attack waiting but it is so good)

Green Beans - cook a smoked turkey wing in boiling water with crushed red pepper, garlic, and table blend; snap green beans and add them to the water, cook until soft

Tuesday
Chicken drumsticks/thighs - season how you like and throw them on the grill
Corn on the cob - put on the grill
Cauliflower - roast it in the oven with olive oil, salt, pepper, and capers

Wednesday

Thursday

But last week's was so good I thought we would try the two together again.)

Friday
Treat your significant other and take them out to eat at their favorite restaurant.  A date night if you will.

This takes care of the meat, check your pantry for the rest.  Remember when you cook the ribs on the grill you can put the chicken legs and corn on there as well.  It'll save you a night of cooking.  I hope you enjoy and let me know if you have anything you would like to see ( just post them in the comment box).  I'll also have a review post later on this week so look for that.  Remember cook simple, eat well.

Week of the 23rd

This week we are gonna have a little bit of this and a little bit of that.  Some items will be in the sales papers, some recipes will be ones that I just wanted to try, and one recipe I made up all by myself.  I skipped Monday because its 10 pm Monday night, so that would be kinda useless.  Here we go.....

Tuesday

Cream of Shrimp (my invention, even though I know this recipe exist in many forms, this is one that I  made without looking at any recipe)
1/4 cup of olive oil
1 lb shrimp
old bay seasoning
Mediterranean seafood seasoning (Kroger brand-Private Selection)
Fresh Garlic
1 or 2 small Sweet peppers (or any kind you like or have)
1 can of Campbell's cream of shrimp
1/4 cup of white cooking wine
Rice

Directions: Cook rice according to directions.  Peel and rinse shrimp, season with old bay and Mediterranean, set aside.  In a pan saute 1 garlic clove and peppers in 1/4 cup of olive oil for approx 2 mins over medium heat.  Add shrimp to garlic and pepper in pan, continue to cook shrimp until it starts turning pink, add wine and soup and simmer until shrimp is cooked thoroughly. Serve over rice.  Enjoy!

I haven't had it before but I like sausage and I like pasta so I think it might be pretty good.

Thursday

I have had this before and its wonderful. 
Cauliflower - saute in olive oil with fresh garlic, and capers.

Grilled Chicken Breast

put the broccoli in foil, season with Montreal steak seasoning, butter, olive oil, and garlic powder, close foil and throw it on the grill

 The grocery list this week takes care of most of the meat.  The other ingredients you need to check your pantry before you venture out.  You might be pleasantly surprised and find some of the things in your cabinet.  Hope you enjoy and remember, cook simple, eat well.

It happened again

Just as soon as I say that I will get my post up earlier on Sunday, it happened again.  We had such a busy weekend that time got away again.  I will have the post up tomorrow evening though.  Once again, I 'm sorry.  But here is a little gem that I found over the weekend.  For those of you that like chocolate and alcohol I found a chocolate wine at Kroger.  It was $12.99 a bottle and it was delicious.  It was kinda like a chocolate martini.  Here is the link to the wine so you know what it looks like: http://chocovine.com/welcome.htm.  Check it out, you won't be disappointed.  See you tomorrow.

Sorry.....

This weekend I took a Real Estate CRAM course.  You ever think you know something but then you go to a class and realize you really didn't know anything?  Yeah, that happened to me this weekend. It took a lot more time then I thought it would.  So this week's blog is late.  Sorry about that.  I'll try my best to never let it happen again.  Anyway, here's the menu for this week:

Monday

Pizza- cook your meat ingredients separately (sausage, bacon, ground beef, etc), follow the directions on the pizza dough for the crust and just layer the ingredients however you feel.  For another option, throw it on the grill, my brother and sister in law do, and it's really good.

Fried Catfish- fry the fish

Wednesday

Steak (your choice)

Pancakes - this week we can just use the ones out of the box (we'll do homemade ones in the future)
Grits
Eggs
Sausage

Friday

Rice - I like jasmine or basmati.  Its much better then the regular white rice.

    Here We Go Again

    Sorry so late this week.  We had to spend time with the family.  What's more important than family? Nothing that I can think of.  We had a great time and ate well (my mother in law can COOK).  OK, enough about that let's get this week planned out:

    Monday
    Turkey Tacos - cook with taco seasoning, garlic, and table blend; make a taco with lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream 
    Tortilla Chips

    Tuesday
    Ribs - cook in boiling water until tender with fresh garlic, montreal steak seasoning, season salt, brown sugar, table blend; remove from water, lightly season again and cook on grill
    Corn - shuck the corn on the cob, wrap in foil, melt some butter with olive oil and season salt, cover cob and close foil, put on grill
    Baked potato

    Wednesday
    Simple Shrimp Scampi - season shrimp with old bay, saute shrimp in olive oil, white wine, butter, and garlic
    Noodles - just cook and serve with shrimp
    Salad

    Thursday

    So here we go....

    This is the first post, of hopefully many, weekly shopping list and menu.
    Here is the list:

    Kroger:
    • Boneless pork loin $1.99 lb
    • Perdue whole Chicken $.77 lb
    • Broccoli $1.29 lb
    • Lettuce $1 head
    • Frozen Bird's eye sweet corn
    • Buttermilk
    • BBQ sauce
    • 1 Can baked beans
    • Asparagus
    • Sweet Potatoes
    • Hamburger buns
    • Hot dog buns

    Publix:
    • Ribeye Steak $6.99 lb
    • Johnsville Sausage $3.50
    • Green Beans $.99lb



     Meal 1
    • Ribeye Steaks - We season our steaks with Montreal steak seasoning, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning
    • Broccoli - wrap this in some foil and put butter, fresh garlic, salt, & pepper put it on the grill and   cook until tender
    • Baked potato - Throw it in the microwave
    Meal 2
    • Pork loin Sandwich Check out this slamming recipe from allrecipes.com:

    • Baked Beans - cook bacon, drain juice off of baked beans, put in container with ketchup, brown sugar, bacon grease, BBQ sauce, bacon, stir, bake on 350
    • Salad
    Meal 3

    • Green beans - Cook smoked turkey wing in water with butter, garlic, crushed red pepper, table blend, and Italian seasoning, add green beans
    • Frozen corn - for creamy sweet corn melt  2tbsp butter and 1 tbsp flour, stir.  add milk and sugar as desired, then add corn, cook until corn is thawed out
    Meal 4

    • Lodge Buttermilk Drop Biscuits (this recipe will change your life)

              Flour 2 cups
              1Tbl baking powder
              1/4 tsp baking soda
              2-3 Tbl Sugar
              1/2 tsp cream of tarter
              1/4 tsp salt
              1 stick butter melted
              1 to 1 1/4 cup buttermilk

              in a bowl, stir dry ingredients together. cut in butter to coarse crumb stage. add buttermilk. stir until just blended.  Drop dough into biscuit pan fill quite full. Bake 15-18 min. in 450 degrees.

    When I finish I melt a few tbl butter and stir in sugar... I put that on top of the biscuits
    • Grits - we use heavy cream to make them thick
    • Bacon
    • Eggs
    Meal 5
    • Johnsville Sausage - simmer on stove in 1 can of beer with fresh garlic and crushed red peppers, throw on grill to brown
    • Asparagus - saute in olive oil with garlic and Montreal steak seasoning
    • Sweet Potato - cook in microwave, put brown sugar, butter, honey

    Sorry if I missed anything, I had to make some assumptions about things you already have in your pantry.  Just double check how you will cook the food with your shopping list.  The little suggestions next to the food is how we cook it, but feel free to post your recipes or how you cook the things listed.  Thanks for looking and remember:  cook simple, eat well.
